Guest Post- My Top Five Favourite Ghost Stories by Liz

We've had favourite scary stories from Andrew and Raimy, now time for ghost stories in particular! Now for a great post from another generally awesome person:  Liz from Planet Print!

1. The Mediator series by Meg Cabot – The Mediator was one of the first YA series I ever read and is probably what got me into ghost stories. It’s not really a scary take on ghosts (and is actually pretty funny) but I just loved all the characters, especially the main character Suze, who was one of the first heroines I ever thought was awesome. There’s a great mix of action and romance too, and this series has stayed one of my favourite ghost series for years.

2. Anna Dressed in Blood by Kendare Blake – I loved the creepy vibe in this one and the whole mystery surrounding Anna. I wanted to know why she killed so many people and I loved learning about her backstory too. Anna was probably my favourite character, though I did love Cas as well! The romance was a bit...creepily awkward and almost wrong, but I found myself rooting for Cas and Anna anyway.

3. Haunting Violet by Alyxandra Harvey – I loved this book because it’s a ghost story set in Victorian times! The setting makes things a bit darker and more ominous in my opinion, and I loved the irony that Violet was the daughter of a woman who pretended to see ghosts for money, yet Violet actually really could see them! A very interesting story and quite different to a lot of other stuff I’ve read.

4. Darkest Powers series by Kelley Armstrong – this series isn’t really about ghosts, though ghosts do play a part. Chloe, the main character, is a necromancer – not only can she see ghosts, but she can also raise the dead. She’s pretty damn powerful and I like the way ghosts are portrayed in the series. Chloe is a great character too and I loved reading about her struggle with coming to terms with her necromancy.

5. Haunting Emma series by Lee Nichols – I thought the idea of ghostkeepers in this series was pretty unique, and the way people lost their powers when they fell in love with stronger ghostkeepers was very interesting. I also liked the way that people you thought were friends sometimes turned out to be villains! It was a nice take on ghosts and how they interacted with humans and each other.
