Book Hop #11

Book Blogger HopHi everyone! Did you get here via the blog hop at Crazy for Books If yes, thank you!
If not, then thanks for getting here by some other means!
Here at Death Books and Tea we read and review young adult books. Horror, dystopian, paranormal, manga, anything that looks particularly interesting.

And now for this week's question...
What keeps you reading beyond the first few pages of a book, and what makes you want to stop reading a book and put it back on the shelf?
For the keep on reading, it's high expectations from a blurb or review I read previously, it's a good writing style, a little bit of humour, and characters or concepts with sass.
For the put back down, its when something gets extremely boring and doesn't pick up within a reasonable amount of time, its when one of the characters really gets on my nerves, its when I can't stand a plot, it's  just when a book gets boring for whatever reason I think of.

Thank you again for coming here! We're nearly at 100 followers! Note: If we ever get there, we'll do a giveaway...books of your choice...
Enjoy life everyone, and leave a link for me to get back...one day...

  1. For the books that I'm stashing in rooms, I read in short bursts. To keep reading them I must be able to remember where I am even if I've only read a couple pages or haven't been able to read in days. Come see how I decide what to keep reading and what to stop.

  7. I am a total sucker for a book with a great cover. Now that I think about it, a lot of the books that I haven't finished lately were because the story didn't live up to the awesomeness of the cover.

  8. I don't know why I keep reading a book. It's not the story. It's not the characters. I really don't know!

I'm hopping by to tell you that I've got a wonderful giveaway going on at my blog, Readerbuzz. It's international! During the Readerbuzz July Giveaway I'll be giving away a $25 Amazon gift card! I'd love to have you stop in and throw your name in the hat to win!

  9. Hi! I'm Izzy, and I'm just stopping by your blog on the Blog Hop. I'm so bad with boring books, too. I often just can't bring myself to actually sit down and get through them!

  10. Oooh, gotta love the sass. A sassy heroine paired with a witty would-be lover is my formula for romance gold. The only time I allow a character to get on my nerves is if I'm sure he'll get his comeuppance - ie if he's the villain or a minor character who's probably gonna get chomped on before half the book is over. Have a great weekend!

  11. I agree about sassy. But I also like a damaged heroine for example, Chess from Stacia Kane's Downside series. She is not perfect, in fact she's a mess, but she still runs towards the danger instead of away. New follower, hope you come by and return follow:

  12. Hopping through. Congrats on hitting over 100 followers!
I can deal with a boring book for a little while, but as you said, if it doesn't pick up after awhile, it has to go.
