I'm back in the hop! Kind of... Joined Alison and Parajunkee because the other one died...For consistancy, I'm tagging this with Book Hop though. Hope you don't mind. In case you don't know me, I'm Nina and I blog here with Katy. We read young adult of most types, with heavy emphasis on the slightly more fantastical. Steampunk, fantasy, dystopia, paranormal romance, horror, manga, we'll read most things if they look interesting enough to us.

Q:  If you had to spend eternity inside the pages of a book which book would you choose and why?


I think I answered this once before... I still say in the world of Black Butler/Kuroshitsuji. Demons mixed into your semi-traditional Victorian time? My thing exactly. If not, then the world of Scott Westerfeld's Leviathan-Steampunky goodness and a tonne of adventure! (I know I kind of cheated here but it is hard to decide between these too). Somehow I sense a theme running through here...

This weeks question...
“What is your favorite spooky book (i.e. mystery/suspense, thriller, ghost story, etc.)?”


For this, I'd absolutely have to say Ring by Koji Suzuki. You may have heard of the films, it's the one where you watch a videotape and you're cursed to die in a week. It's a bit of all the above genres, and the only book that has ever left me awake at night. Is it odd that I liked being scared? Oh well....

Well there's quite a lot... There's the release of Curtis Rx's album Dead Beat (completely unrelated to books but oh well)...There's the release of that steampunk anthology book, and some more books I can't be bothered to think of right now...There's Halloween, for which I am planning a week long event with a giveaway... and my birthday... and probably some other stuff.

I went through my goodreads list and chose my favourite. I'm saying Kamikaze Girls by Novala Takemoto. This is because when you see Kamikaze, you think of WW2 and suicide missions. However Kamikaze Girls is pretty much the opposite: friendship, two girls, and awesomeness. I suggest you read it. If not just for the title.]#


That's my choice. I'm sure there's many other books with awesome titles.

This week's question is... What’s the ONE GENRE that you wish you could get into, but just can’t?

My answer: pure, straight romantic chic lit. If all a story is someone falling in love with someone, or just friendships with nothing interesting happening, I can't read it. I just get bored with it...

How about you? What can you not get on  with no matter what? I'll get back to you at some point...it's the summer holidays later...I'll have time to get through everything now...

I go to the library mainly. Seriously, mine are amazing. They have loads of books that I like, and the ones they don't stock, they'll try and get hold of it. I love my library so much! Sometimes, I buy my books from various places

Here at Death Books and Tea we read and review young adult books. Horror, dystopian, paranormal, manga, anything that looks particularly interesting.

And now for this week's question...
What keeps you reading beyond the first few pages of a book, and what makes you want to stop reading a book and put it back on the shelf?
For the keep on reading, it's high expectations from a blurb or review I read previously, it's a good writing style, a little bit of humour, and characters or concepts with sass.
For the put back down, its when something gets extremely boring and doesn't pick up within a reasonable amount of time, its when one of the characters really gets on my nerves, its when I can't stand a plot, it's  just when a book gets boring for whatever reason I think of.

This week's question is: "When did you realize reading was your passion and a truly important part of your life?"
Answer: I have no idea. I know since reception I loved reading, (thats age 4), and that by year 3, (age 7,) I'd be sitting in the corner of the playground at school reading. This carried on until about age 11. And then I moved schools, which had a book club, the majority of which I am friends with, and spend half my time with at lunch and break times, not necessarily talking about books. Most of my friends come from the fact that we read the same books and got talking about them. So reading has always been my passion, or at least as much as I can remember, and has always been a truly important part of my life.

I'm back!! And Book Hop #9

I'm back from my holiday.  It was fun and I enjoyed it, apart from the small fact that Fleetway and whoever else we'd booked with had messed around with us a lot, and that three days in I'd finished all four books I took with me. And I didn't have enough money so I couldn't buy My Name is Memory. Oh well.
Anyway, I've written reviews which I'll post at some time.  For now though, on with the Hop...

Doesn't this sound kind of familiar...oh well... Once again, the world of Black Butler, by Yana Toboso. (review of volumes 1&2 can be found here) Demons, shinigami, chainsaws, zombies, circuses and tea in the Victorian era? Love.

Well I would say Stephanie at Books are a Girl's Best Friend, but I'm not entirely sure if that counts as I see her anyway...those I would like to meet that I don't already are Vickie at ComaCalm's corner, and Cait at the Cait Files. And I know these two aren't book bloggers exactly, but Emily and Miley at Random things about Me and Grell at Blog of DEATH! and Ronald at Pwning Grell-senpai's Blog seem like fun people I want to meet one day.

Summer is coming quickly - what 2011 summer release are you are most looking forward to?

First, what actually counts as summer? I'm going to say June to August because that makes it easy. Now... There's loads of summer releases I'm looking forwards to!
Theres this weeks WoW, Falling for Hamlet. Theres Alice inthe Country of Hearts volume 6. There's Forbidden, book 2 in the Demon Trappers series. And there's Anna Dressed in Blood.
And theres a lot more, but I won't name them now.

"If you could physically put yourself into a book or series…which one would it be and why?"

Hmmm...hard one. I'd go for the Dark Hunter world created by Sherrilyn Kenyon because I like the fact some of the places featured in it are real, and also who doesn't like the idea of having a set of guys running about slaying vampires each night?
Another world I'd like to live in is the Black Butler world: its a crossover of demons and supernatural stuff, and Victorian England. I want a talented butler pouring me tea! And I think that Black Butler has the best mythology/background to demons and death gods I've seen so far.

The question this time : "Do you read only one book at a time, or do you have several going at once?"

Me, I keep a lot going at the same time. For example , I am currently reading Dreamwalk by Sarah MacManus, Tess of the D'urbervilles by Thomas Hardy, Uncle Montagues Tales of Terror by Chris Priestly and Nura:Rise of the Yokai Clan by some Japanese guy. I don't tend to get the storylines mixed up, which I'm really pleased about because that means I don't have to lump around a huge book everywhere I go-I can take a small book out, and read the big one when I go to bed.
